Wine lover? Discover the Irouléguy, the wine of the Basque Country. Being part of the smallest French vineyards, this wine is a local pride.
Created in the XIIth century by the monks of the Roncevaux abbey, this wine is intimately linked to the history of the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela. Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port is by the way a very important welcome stop for pilgrims before the crossing of the Pyrenees by the Roncevaux pass. Even today, they perpetuate what millions of pilgrims before them have managed: to walk the passes of Cize and to cross the 1200 meters of vertical drop that separates them from Spain.
Classified amongst the most beautiful villages in France, you will discover a village that represents all the charm and authenticity of the preserved countryside of the Basque Country.
An utter delight for eyes, ears and taste buds in sight. 😉
